Life On Mars (venue change)

Image
GE-OLOGY's signature monthly event, four years running, LIFE ON MARS is back, tonight, but with a CHANGE OF VENUE. It would seem, sadly, that New York City has lost another musically important nightlife destination, The subMercer. In GE-OLOGY's own words, ...my favorite home for playing & sharing music the past 4 years, The subMercer.  Trust me, this wasn't any ordinary venue... The subMercer was REALLY SPECIAL, an endangered species, especially for us folks who truly & deeply care about music and the survival of quality nightlife venues in NYC... subMercer was also a very tight knit family of like-minded, creative, fashionable, respectful, beautiful individuals (inside and out) who care about providing a quality experience for it's patrons and each other... I Love Vinyl is very pleased to be a part of this star-studded free event up in Harlem this Saturday afternoon. We will all be nice and warmed up (in more ways than one) for the I Love Vinyl party later that night at the Gallery at LPR. See you Saturday one way or the other (or both)! more info

Tony, Twilite, Tone

Our very own resident virtuoso dj and host extraordinaire The Twilite Tone hails from the Windy City. If you've been to an I Love Vinyl party, or listened to one of the mixes , you already know this because he always shouts out his hometown. Turns out he's a part of that city's early house music history too, as this rare track, dug up by Gene Hunt for a new compilation on Rush Hour, proves. If you dig it, there's a lot more Twilite music out there, from production on albums by Hip-Hop artist Common (or Common Sense, as he was known when Tone, himself known as Ynot?, first worked with him), to recent releases as Great Weekend and The Twilite Tone . And lots more to come...

Unreleased gem

Here's a snippet of the beautiful track "Lost My Love" from the unreleased Kenny Cox LP "Clap Clap (The Joyful Noise)", which will be the first release on our own DJ Amir's exciting new label, 180 Proof, which will be releasing and reissuing the entire Strata catalog, heard and unheard! To hear the whole thing, check out Gilles Peterson's show from last Saturday. He plays it around 59 minutes into the show. And keep an eye on the 180 Proof SoundCloud page for further snippets and sneak peaks ahead of the first releases, dropping this Winter!
